The 1961 Golden Press Baseball Card Set is one of the most vibrant and historically significant oddball trading card releases of the post-war era. Published in 1961 by the renowned children's book giant Golden Press, this 33-card set bypassed active players of the day to focus entirely on an elite roll call of Baseball Hall of Fame members. Instead of traditional wax packs, the set was distributed unconventionally as a large cardboard booklet titled Golden Funtime Trading Cards. Sold on supermarket and newsstand spinner racks for just 29 cents, each page featured full-color cards separated by micro-perforations so children could carefully punch them out. Finding pristine, high-grade examples of 1961 Golden Press cards is a significant challenge for vintage collectors. Because the cards were designed to be punched out by hand, perforation wear and fuzzy corners are incredibly common.
